Museo della Contrada del Valdimontone

Giovanni Michelucci designed the Museum in 1974

Via Val di Montone, 2, 53100 Siena SI, Italy

The Valdimontone neighbourhood has been using the oratory of the Santissima Trinità (Holy Trinity) since the second half of the seventeenth century.

To be precise, the neighbourhood held its gatherings and religious functions in the chapel dedicated to Maria Santissima (Blessed Mary); the celebrations of the titular Feast were held “at the Blessed Virgin Mary below the Piano de’ Servi at the crossing”, which is the tabernacle in the building at the junction of Via dei Servi and Via delle Cantine (probably built in the second half of the sixteenth century).

Today the Museum of the Valdimontone neighbourhood in Siena is next to the Oratory of the Santissima Trinità, in a building designed by the architect Giovanni Michelucci and finished, after his death, in the late 1990s by Bruno Sacchi. The Palio banners won by the neighbourhood are displayed in this new building.
