Where to park in Siena?
If you want to stop in Siena, a medieval town that is both beautiful and rich in history, you may wonder where you can park your car to conveniently reach the heart of the city.
The historic centre is protected by the RTZ – Restricted Traffic Zone – which makes the streets of this area a wonderful open-air place for pedestrians. To walk around the city freely, you might wonder where to park in Siena: fortunately, there are numerous affiliated facilities.
Siena: free parking spaces
When organising an excursion outside Siena, you must also plan where to leave your car and enjoy the day. Alongside guarded and paid parking spaces, you can still find some areas in the city where you can park your car free of charge. Unfortunately, these areas are small and located in various parts of the city. For this reason, it is better to know exactly where to go beforehand: this will help you to win the last free places available, and avoid wasting time. Here are some suggestions on the best free car parks in Siena.
Laterina Road
In the southern part of Siena you can find a small free car park adjacent to the Municipal Cemetery. It is one of the most convenient parking areas for visits to the historic centre, located just a 15-minutes walk from the main square of Siena, Piazza del Campo. On the way to the centre, you will encounter some of Siena’s main sights, such as the Gothic Duomo complex.
The free car park in the Laterina street is very often full; in this case, you can park your car just after the Laterina gate or at the ‘il Duomo’ paid car park.
Viale Mario Bracci
Viale Mario Bracci is the main road to reach Le Scotte University Hospital in Siena. If you find yourself in this area, you can park your car for free along one side of the street and then reach the historic city centre by public transport, such as the 10 or 17 bus.
Il Campino
Il Campino is one of the most frequently used free parking areas in Siena. It is convenient for those arriving from the east or south and located very close to the historic centre, along Viale Vittorio Veneto, directly below the Fortezza Medicea, one of Siena’s best-known attractions. With just a 10-minutes walk you can reach the sumptuous Piazza del Campo and the majestic Gothic complex of the Duomo di Siena.
Strada di Malizia
Strada Malizia is another free parking area in Siena. Although it is further from the centre than the others mentioned above, it is still a good alternative for those who wish to stroll among the wonders of this historic city. Those who prefer not to waste time, however, can count on the punctual and efficient public transport that connects Strada di Malizia with the city centre.
Paid parking spaces in Siena
In addition to free car parks, Siena offers a wide choice of paid parking spaces, located in various areas of the city to allow anyone who wishes to do so to easily reach the historic centre.
With regard to the rates charged by individual car parks, please note that on public holidays all paid car parks in Siena are free. Let’s find out which are the most convenient paid spaces.
