Program
Friday
Check into the hotel upon arrival in Siena. Late afternoon welcome drink at a charming location in the heart of Siena and meeting with tour representative for a brief presentation of the weekend’s programme.
Dinner (not included) and overnight stay at the hotel.
Saturday
Breakfast at the hotel, then meet up with the guide and depart on the full-day tour.
The morning is dedicated to the discovery of the Crete Senesi as we travel along the Via Lauretana, which crosses one of the most beautiful landscapes of Tuscany, until we reach Asciano, an ancient Etruscan village nestled among the Crete, where we will visit the Museo Cassioli, a museum showcasing 19th-century Sienese art.
Next will be San Giovanni d’Asso, home to the first Italian museum dedicated to truffles, which is located in the basement of the 14th-century Castello di San Giovanni.
Lunch in a restaurant to taste the local specialities.
In the afternoon, we continue on to the Abbazia di Monte Oliveto Maggiore, founded by Bernardo Tolomei seven centuries ago and set among scenic badlands, where peace and tranquillity reign. You will visit the marvellous church, the cloister with its splendid frescoes depicting the life of San Benedetto painted first by Luca Signorelli and then by Sodoma, the library, the old pharmacy, and the small museum. Monte Oliveto is also home to the production of wine and extra-virgin olive oil, the result of the monks’ hard work and commitment.
Return to Siena afterwards for dinner at a restaurant and overnight stay at the hotel.
Sunday
Breakfast at the hotel. Free time for exploring the city.
